The decision to see a therapist is a very personal and often difficult choice to make. My hope is that the decision to schedule the first session is the hardest part of the process.

As a therapist, I tend to have a laid-back and informal approach to counseling. I like to use humor in my sessions and believe it’s important not to take myself or life too seriously. The decision to see a therapist is a very personal and often difficult choice to make. My hope is that the decision to schedule the first session is the hardest part of the process. While there are likely going to be challenging moments in therapy, overall, it should be a positive experience.

I work with clients on a wide range of concerns including anxiety, depression, ADD, couples counseling, grief and loss, women’s reproductive health (infertility, miscarriage, infant loss, IVF), and lifestyle changes (tobacco cessation, weight loss, and stress management). I am also able to provide faith-based counseling, but work with clients with many different spiritual and religious backgrounds.

While I’m not a huge fan of the cold, I’ve lived in Minnesota my entire life. It’s my wonderful friends and family that have helped me survive this northern climate, and I’ll surely continue living here for many years to come. I am happily married and have 2 young children. In my free time, I love spending time at our family cabin, reading fiction, and singing.

I attended Bethel University and received my undergraduate degree in Psychology. Upon graduating, I began working at Cigna health insurance. I worked in a variety of roles during my 11 plus years with the company, including intake, case coordination, and wellness coaching. While working full-time, I went on to complete my master’s degree in Human Development and then earned a certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy at St. Mary’s University. Currently, I am a Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and have been working with clients in a private practice setting for over 2 years.

Understanding our relational  approach can give you a sense of how psychotherapy can help. Unlike counseling and other types of therapy, it takes a perspective that’s both deeper and broader. By focusing on emotions, it seeks to discover hidden pieces of who you are and then to understand how those pieces fit together.
