Religious and Spiritual Considerations in Psychotherapy
Presented by: Kristine Martin, MA, LPCC and Andrew Braum, LPCC, LADC
The format for this training will be a discussion with other professionals about spirituality and religion and the role they play in our work. We will examine supporting data on affiliations and sociological trends in the general population. Through a more open discussion format, the potency of this training comes from all of us as a group, with Andrew and Kristine serving as facilitators of the developing discussion rather than in the role of experts in the field of religion and spirituality.
Both Kristine and Andrew have experience in utilizing spiritual and religious principles and structures within the therapeutic framework as well as within broader contexts. Please join us in a conversation to support our deepening awareness of this vital topic and the tremendous positive impact it can have with our clients.
Participants in this two-hour training will learn:
- Definition(s) of religion and spirituality, and demographic support for importance and inclusion in the therapeutic work.
- Experiences and challenges in clinical practice.
- Ethical boundaries.
- Benefits of exploring our own spirituality and religious beliefs to better support our clients.
Please be advised, the 2020 training series has not been pre-approved for professional CEUs. A certificate of attendance will be provided. Please contact your licensing board directly to ensure trainings meet requirements for CEUs.
