Carrie Chomicz

Licensed Psychologist

Over the years, the needs of many of the people I have worked with have inspired me to pursue specialized training to effectively treat trauma-related disorders and symptoms such as PTSD, developmental trauma, personality disorders, depression, anxiety, and relationship instability.

I am a calm and non-judgmental therapist. My style is collaborative and creative. I have 20 years experience working as a psychologist in a variety of settings, including addiction treatment centers, outpatient clinics, inpatient psychiatric units, and community mental health. I identify as a member of and enjoy working within the LGBTQ+ community. I work with adults (18+).

Over the years, the needs of many of the people I have worked with have inspired me to pursue specialized training to effectively treat trauma-related disorders and symptoms such as PTSD, developmental trauma, personality disorders, depression, anxiety, and relationship instability. I am certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy. This therapy helps people heal from the persisting negative impact of overwhelming life events. EMDR therapy can promote a sense of feeling that the memory of a life event is now in the past versus feeling like the memory is being triggered intrusively over and over in the form of distressing images, sensations, and emotions. I have also completed training in Somatic Experiencing, AIR Network, DBT, and mindfulness and I am well versed in the 12 Step recovery model and other addiction recovery focused interventions.

The greatest joy of my work is walking with people on the awesome journey from internal chaos, stuck old relationship patterns, out of control behaviors, and shame all the way to freedom, ease, meaning, and healthy connections.

Understanding our relational  approach can give you a sense of how psychotherapy can help. Unlike counseling and other types of therapy, it takes a perspective that’s both deeper and broader. By focusing on emotions, it seeks to discover hidden pieces of who you are and then to understand how those pieces fit together.
