Elizabeth (Zeb) Henderson Shreve

Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker

I help people who are affected by the accumulated pain of stress, trauma and oppression. That pain can “show up” as depression, PTSD, self-harm, anxiety or difficulties in relationships.

I help people who are affected by the accumulated pain of stress, trauma and oppression. That pain can “show up” as depression, PTSD, self-harm, anxiety or difficulties in relationships. When you don’t quite fit into the mainstream idea of happiness, it can be easy to feel broken, or to worry that others will you see you that way. I know from over twenty years working in so-called “difficult” settings – domestic violence programs, day treatment, community mental health – that no one is defined solely by their problems. My role in therapy is to support you as you build on your own strengths and guide you towards healing.

I am fluent in Spanish and English and have practiced cross-culturally and bilingually in all my work experience. Common issues that I address include immigration and acculturation stress, complex trauma, relationship and family violence and exploring gender identity. I have particular experience in adolescent mental health, LGBTQ mental health, and Latinx mental health.

I practice from a trauma-informed perspective and incorporate mindfulness, empowerment and mind-body techniques into our work. I draw on all my experience and might reference my dance training or a good book as well as therapy models. I am trained in Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Exposure Therapy and EMDR; I have advanced training in transgender mental health (including using an informed consent model in support of medical interventions).

Outside of the therapy office, you can find me in a dance studio, walking my dog or supporting independent artists in pretty much any genre.

Understanding our relational  approach can give you a sense of how psychotherapy can help. Unlike counseling and other types of therapy, it takes a perspective that’s both deeper and broader. By focusing on emotions, it seeks to discover hidden pieces of who you are and then to understand how those pieces fit together.
