Nancy Giffen

Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker

Sometimes life is hard; and it seems that no matter what we do we can’t seem to change it. A therapist may be just what you need to help navigate this rocky terrain.

Pathway to peace. Hope and change. Possibility and potential. These are just a few of the words I think of when describing therapy. As a seasoned professional I’ve guided countless people out of confusion and despair and back into a place of strength and empowerment.

My ultimate goal with everyone is to increase their understanding of themselves. I do this by teaching you how to notice information that is currently being missed. Or you notice it, but don’t know what do to about it. I place an emphasis on the “Now what?” phase of therapy that shifts the focus from an intellectual understanding to the application of the material.

In a safe, supportive, compassionate space, I work with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, loss, death, divorce, relationship concerns, life transitions and changes, questions about identity, as well as anyone struggling with everyday life. I draw upon solution oriented brief therapy, mindfulness, CBT, DBT, family systems, and strength-based approaches. Together we create a path that is best suited for you.

I’ve been told my style is calm and gentle; safe and welcoming; yet I will nudge you if necessary. At the end of the first session, I hope you leave feeling heard and understood – with the thought that there’s light at the end of the tunnel.

Understanding our relational  approach can give you a sense of how psychotherapy can help. Unlike counseling and other types of therapy, it takes a perspective that’s both deeper and broader. By focusing on emotions, it seeks to discover hidden pieces of who you are and then to understand how those pieces fit together.
