Rob Baker

Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor

For 20+ years I coached and trained people to achieve their goals, overcoming physical and psychological barriers that restricted their own abilities from rising to the challenge. Approaching our mental health with curiosity, courage and compassion is key for growth. We will face challenges together: we may laugh, we may cry, and we will look deeply at the root cause of the pain to be able to truly move forward.

“You can only enter half way into the dark forest before you begin to come out the other side” – Chinese proverb.

Maybe you can relate to this quote. Reading this alone shows your desire to live in a different way than you have been. It shows you care about yourself and the people you interact with. You are seeking something. I have been working with clients for over 4 years challenged by experiences like physical, sexual, emotional, and developmental trauma helping them find ways to move forward, to move toward the life they imagined. Specifically, I have been working with women who used opiates to cope with the pain of their lives. Whether you have been battling addiction, anxiety, depression, PTSD, loss of a loved one, relationship issues, or maybe just feel stuck. Then you have experienced pain and want solutions to achieve what seems unachievable.

The work we do together will be tailored to you, your goals are my goals.

I am a licensed LADC, a pre-licensed LPCC therapist and received my Masters of Arts degree in addiction studies from the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation and a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. I worked in the Positive Emotion Psychology lab under Dr. Barbara Frederickson.

In my off time I bike, hike, ski, snowboard, and spend time in nature and with my spouse, daughter and two dogs. These are thing that bring me joy and my work is no different. It is an honor to build trust with people and walk next to them in their life journey.

Understanding our relational  approach can give you a sense of how psychotherapy can help. Unlike counseling and other types of therapy, it takes a perspective that’s both deeper and broader. By focusing on emotions, it seeks to discover hidden pieces of who you are and then to understand how those pieces fit together.
