Sophia Pimsler

Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist

It is my belief that the mind and body are intrinsically connected. Often we can become disconnected from our bodies due to a variety of traumatic situations.

I have found that although I work with a wide range of clientele, time and again I observe that people have more commonalities than differences. My practice continues to engage a variety of clients with a concentrated focus on couples, athletes, performers, blended families, active military, veterans, college students/graduates in transition, LGBTQ, adoptees, and individuals facing religious oppression & alienation. Being raised in a mixed religious and cultural household, I have personal experience navigating the complexities of differing faiths and practices. Therefore, as a systemic therapist, I am passionate about helping couples and families with conflicting beliefs. My hope is to facilitate a safe space to have conversations discussing conflicting ideologies, find resolution & acceptance, despite differences.

It is my belief that the mind and body are intrinsically connected. Often we can become disconnected from our bodies as the result of a variety of traumatic situations. These experiences might be recent, or from several years prior, and are significant in their impact on our emotional well-being. My work as a professional performer and choreographer heavily influences my therapeutic practice. In addition to traditional talk therapy, I integrate a variety of artistic modalities to ease the mind as well as the body. I also incorporate a combination of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Narrative Therapy, and Feminist Therapy into my practice.

When I am not working as a therapist, I am often in rehearsal as a performer, choreographer and dance instructor.  I love spending time outside in the summer, exercising, cooking, and exploring new restaurants. In the winter, my hobby is not freezing with the seasonal goal of not getting stuck in snow!

I completed my undergraduate degree at Minnesota State University, Mankato with B.A in Dance and a minor in Alcohol & Drug Studies. My graduate degree was completed at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota with a M.A in Marriage & Family Therapy. Prior to my work in group private practice, I was a counselor at a Minneapolis Chemical Dependency Treatment Center and at a Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) Center for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Understanding our relational  approach can give you a sense of how psychotherapy can help. Unlike counseling and other types of therapy, it takes a perspective that’s both deeper and broader. By focusing on emotions, it seeks to discover hidden pieces of who you are and then to understand how those pieces fit together.
