Mental health is difficult to pin down precisely, but I’m partial to the World Health Organization’s definition: A state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.

Mental health is difficult to pin down precisely, but I’m partial to the World Health Organization’s definition: A state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.

Mental well-being is many-layered, sometimes involving medication, therapy, or both.  It also requires adequate sleep, proper nutrition, exercise, social supports, and an ability to find internal calm, no matter the external environment.

Who am I, and how can I help?

    • As a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP-CNP), my training has prepared me both to prescribe medication and to provide psychotherapy; I’m happy to work with you in one or both of those roles, and I am always committed to providing supportive psychotherapy in the context of medication management.
    • As a long-time yoga practitioner and meditator, and with training in teaching both yoga and meditation, I bring these skill sets into my practice as well.  Whether or not you are interested in engaging directly in yoga or mindfulness, you can benefit from learning skills central to these practices: responding rather than reacting, recognizing emotions in the body, improving self-regulation, and loving self and others.

I whole-heartedly believe medication can be helpful for mental wellness, but meds are never the full solution, and – if you’re committed to the journey – I’m committed to walking with you as we uncover your own, unique recipe for mental well-being and flourishing.  It will not be easy, but with your hard work comes the reward of learning tools to manage your mental well-being on your own over the long term.

I am excited to work with kids and families, and adults, who are ready to move and work together towards mental well-being.

Understanding our relational  approach can give you a sense of how psychotherapy can help. Unlike counseling and other types of therapy, it takes a perspective that’s both deeper and broader. By focusing on emotions, it seeks to discover hidden pieces of who you are and then to understand how those pieces fit together.
