Stephanie Childress

MA, LADC, LPCC Track; Psychotherapist

My therapeutic specialties include addiction, process addictions (such as compulsive gambling, sex, internet, and shopping), as well as depression, anxiety, relationship conflicts, identity/purpose, and trauma.

I am a psychotherapist and addiction therapist. I have been in the field of addiction and mental health for twenty years. My therapeutic specialties include addiction, process addictions (such as compulsive gambling, sex, internet, and shopping), as well as depression, anxiety, relationship conflicts, identity/purpose, and trauma. I have a special clinical focus in working with professionals in trauma-exposure job roles: addressing burnout and vicarious trauma, working with police, fire fighters, doctors, nurses, veterinarians, and therapists. I also work with college students and with parents who have children with special needs.

I have a focused track addressing anger management: these are individual therapy sessions (not group) with an 8-session commitment. These may be accepted by probation and the courts if there is a court order. This therapy track uses a CBT plus Criminal Thinking approach.

I am LGBTQIA+ affirmative. I use an integrative therapeutic approach including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, Narrative Therapy, Person-Centered, Non-Violent Communication (NVC), as well as using a trauma-informed therapeutic lens.

Understanding our relational  approach can give you a sense of how psychotherapy can help. Unlike counseling and other types of therapy, it takes a perspective that’s both deeper and broader. By focusing on emotions, it seeks to discover hidden pieces of who you are and then to understand how those pieces fit together.
