Zoe Slaughter

Clinical/Counseling Intern & Psychotherapist

I aim to create a warm and judgment free zone by utilizing a person-centered approach, Health At Every Size principles, and an array of mindfulness, self-care, and self-compassion tools.

I firmly believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship, and I place a lot of energy and importance on creating a strong foundation to continue building upon during our time together. I aim to create a warm and judgment free zone by utilizing a person-centered approach, Health At Every Size principles, and an array of mindfulness, self-care, and self-compassion tools. I am interested in providing individual therapy for adults, with a specific interest in working with members of the fat community.

I am a graduate student at Adams State University in a clinical mental health counseling master’s program and will be providing therapy as a practicum student under my supervisor Mary Utz, MSW, LICSW until May, 2020. I received my undergraduate degree in psychology from Indiana University and have always felt a pull towards a helping profession, and during my time at Indiana University I realized that pull was leading to counseling. I have over five years of direct client service within the mental health profession and am excited to embark on this next step of my journey to become a licensed therapist.

Note: Zoe offers some reduced-fee and pro-bono services, in addition to accepting most insurance.

Understanding our relational  approach can give you a sense of how psychotherapy can help. Unlike counseling and other types of therapy, it takes a perspective that’s both deeper and broader. By focusing on emotions, it seeks to discover hidden pieces of who you are and then to understand how those pieces fit together.
