Tristan Carter, MSW, LGSW, LADC, Therapy Fellow
He/Him/His
Locations: The Lakeside Center
Congratulations on taking the first step to reaching emotional wellness! Tristan’s ultimate goal is to help clients find and
maintain motivation for lasting, meaningful change. When life gets zesty, Tristan can provide you with a safe, judgment-free,
and relaxing space to allow for venting, humor, healing, and, most importantly, collaborative problem-solving to help ease the
intensity, frequency, and duration of difficult emotions and situations. Therapy is more than working towards goals; it’s about
learning to cope with past experiences, using them as foundation stones for your future, and, of course, building a trusting
relationship with another living, breathing human being! While therapy can feel task-oriented or like a checklist, I employ a
more conversational and relational method to help you. Everyone deserves a space where they can show up, be their
authentic selves, and speak their truth!
Tristan has a variety of interests and specialties, including American burnout, quiet exhaustion, sport and athletic
psychology, sexual health and wellness, concussion recovery/reintegration, substance use disorders, acute and chronic
medical complexities, complex family dynamics, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Neurodivergent Learners and Individuals, and
more! Being a person is hard on the best of days, life is going to life, and sometimes you need support.
He uses a variety of tools to support children, teens, and adults in establishing emotional safety, recognition, and regulation;
developing processing and coping skills; and restoring order and confidence. Some of those tools take the form of Cognitive
Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT),
Trauma-Informed Practices and Interventions, and psychodynamic therapy with a strong focus on developing resilience
skills.
He has a wide base of experience, including school and medical social work, co-occurring disorder treatment, school-based
therapy, and is a former teacher. When Tristan is not at work, you can find him taking road trips, golfing, and coaching youth
athletics. If any of the points above piqued your interest, please reach out to schedule an appointment! I hope to meet you
soon!
Tristan is working under the licensed supervision of Sophia Thoen, MSW, LICSW, while pursuing clinical licensure as a
Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker.
